FAQ 1. Which mobile devices are compatible with Murder Inc iBeacon Murder Mysteries?  

A. Murder Inc Murder Mysteries use iBeacon technology which uses BLE (BlueTooth Low Emission), also known as BlueTooth 4.0. This first appeared in devices in 2011. Check your device's compatibility below if you are using an older device. NB iPad 2s cannot be used. 

iOS devices that have BLE (Bluetooth 4.0) are from iPhone 4s onward and the following iPads: 

  • iPad, 3rd generation
  • iPad, 4th generation
  • iPad mini
  • iPad mini 2
  • iPad mini 3
  • iPad Air
  • iPad Air 2
  • iPad Pro

iPod touch 5th generation also has BlueTooth 4.0.

FAQ2. Which device works best with iBeacons?

A. Any of the latest iPads and Android tablets will work perfectly with iBeacons. The content is optimised for tablet devices, although it is possible to play our Murder Mysteries successfully on a smart phone. 

 

FAQ3. Our venue has very poor wifi, will this affect how the murder mystery works?

A. No. You do not need to be online to play one of our murder mysteries. Installing the application adds all the contents for that murder mystery to your device. This is triggered and displayed by BlueTooth as you approach each iBeacon. 

 

FAQ4.  My device is not seeing any content in the Murder Inc app, or the content is not updating as I move between iBeacons. How can I fix this? 

A. Try the following:

    •    Check that you have enabled BlueTooth and location settings on your device correctly. If you are unsure about how to do this check out the video on the USB flash drive in your Murder Mystery box 

    •    Ensure the beacon you are trying to connect to is switched on. 

    •    Re-start your device fully. i.e. a full power off, wait for a minute and restart your device. A device can get 'confused' when many BlueTooth devices are around. A full restart will cure this for the remainder of the game. 

 

FAQ5. My team member's device is updating more quickly with content than mine. Why is this? 

A. The newer the device, the faster the processor. Your team member probably has a newer and faster device than yours. 

 

FAQ6. What is the battery life of the iBeacons? 

A. If you switch the iBeacons off when you are not using them for a murder mystery the batteries will literally last for years. Replacement batteries are easily available and easy to fit. 

 

FAQ7. What happens if an iBeacon doesn’t work?

A. All our iBeacons are individually tested before we send them out, so this should not happen. However if you do encounter any problems just contact us and we will rush you a replacement.

In a worst case scenario - should an iBeacon be damaged on the day of your event, for example - we have included all content from each iBeacon in the “In Case of Emergency” file on the USB flash drive. Although we cannot replicate the full interactive experience here, your participants will still have all the information they need to solve the murder.

 

FAQ8. My venue is larger than the stated range of your iBeacons. Is there anything I can do?

A.Yes. Each iBeacon can be reconfigured to extend its range. Full instructions can be found in the set-up documents on the USB flash drive supplied with every Murder Mystery Box.
